K-dramas, fairytales and faith.

I've always loved shows. I think I got it from my mum, who used to make sure she records her favourite shows so she can watch them after work. She had so many, she would watch them on fast playback so she could capture everything.
But K-drama fever didn't really get to me till much later after I met my wife. Then, I realised, why haven't I caught on earlier? K-dramas are absolute fairytales, a concoction of impossible coincidences, perfectly thoughtful and sensitive men, women of rare (or even manufactured) beauty and expertly shot scenes that reflect the high technology of Korean society. For the record, not all K-dramas are good. There are exceptionally poor ones too. But there are the few which really lingered in the mind - CLOY, Start-Up, Legend Of The Blue Sea and King: Eternal Monarch come to the fore.

But I think it's important to draw our comfort, hope and dreams not from K-dramas but from our Saviour. The shows give a glimpse of what Heaven may be like, where there are perfect partners in relationships, perfect situations that never seem to happen in real life. But we will be grossly disappointed if we then expect this from people around us and from life. I guess that is why crestfallen K-drama fans will keep going back for more to escape back to a fantasy world.
The beautiful thing? A perfect world exists - and God has paved the way for us to eternal, sweet life. In 2 Peter 3:13, it says: "But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells." Don't lose hope even though the dark world may be a far cry from what we imagine. There is much to look forward to!
